What you are looking for is "Linux4Tegra". Basically a way to build "normal" Linux for the Tegra (i.e. Nvidia Shield) devices. You will need to register as a developer with Nvidia (easy and free to do), because part of the build requires a tool/code from them. I see other guides that I have not tried.
